President's Message

June Luncheon

22nd June, 2017 | Presidents Message

If the definition of leadership is to inspire others and provide a positive influence, then Kristen Molloy possesses this in spades. Kristen is the CEO of the Hunter Valley Coal Chain Coordinator (HVCCC). This organisation is world-class and the envy of many other industries.

The HVCCC coordinates the logistics of approximately 35 coal mines owned by 11 coal producers. It ensures a centralised planning of coal chain activities to release the latent capacity and benefit the coal industry.

I applaud Kristen because her leadership obviously involves uniting the coal producers behind a clear vision and providing detailed technical information to improve profits and reduce costs.  It became obvious to me as I was listening to Kristen that she not only has extensive leadership capabilities with the coal producers, but also with her team of incredibly talented staff.

The Hunter Valley is privileged to have such an incredible organisation assisting the management of its working port.

Our next speaker will be Mr Peter Cock of the Newcastle Airport. We are grateful that Peter has taken the time to address the Club.  He has a strong aviation background and possesses incredible business acumen.

With the State Government announcement that international flights will arrive in Newcastle before Badgerys Creek, we could see international flights before November.  Newcastle would be the departure and destination between Australia, New Zealand, Bali and Fiji.

The infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance cited recently in the Daily Telegraph that “Newcastle Airport is recognised as one of the fastest growing airports in NSW and making it ready for international flights is the next smart step.”

If Newcastle’s prosperity and our individual standard of living hinges upon an efficient flow of tourism and goods, then the airport is a linchpin to the city’s success. I’ll look forward to meeting you at our next luncheon and hearing Peter’s views in relation to the airport a vital link to our city.

See you at the lunches this year,

Dene Kilpatrick | 2017 President
