Our June luncheon featured Russell Cheek, a Hamilton South boy who went on to forge an amazing career in the arts commencing with clown and acting school in Paris, touring Europe with an act developed from his time at school, before returning to Australia to be part of a Newcastle theatrical group called The Castanet Club. The Castanet Club toured Australia and the world for more than 10 years before coming to a close in 1991.
Russell’s career highlights include many stage productions, two Australian movies, as well as being a winner of Australia’s richest TV quiz show Sale of the Century. Russell’s latest production is a one-man show called “Who am I …” which tells his story of winning the quiz show.
Russell had many pivotal moments in his life to date but the lesson that he learned from his experience is to take risks. However, taking risks goes hand-in-hand with preparation. Russell’s preparation came from his time at acting school where he was required to examine his inner self, allowing him to focus on his preparation. Such lessons of risk and preparation are the hallmarks of all successful business people.
This luncheon would not have been possible without the support of our sponsor The Business Centre. The members were provided with an outline of The Business Centre’s collaboration with the State Government which provides invaluable assistance to small businesses. Thank you to Steve Wait and The Business Centre team.

After COVID, business owners need to create a new way of doing business, to forget resilience and to focus on restart, relaunch, and rejuvenation.
This should be an amazing event from a dynamic speaker and former Australian comic of the year.
